Winter Weather Reminders
Edmonton winters can bring heavy snowfall and extreme cold, which may affect travel and student transportation. Families are encouraged to plan ahead and stay informed.
Student Transportation
Weather conditions can cause delays or cancellations for yellow bus service. While Transportation Services has an excellent record, extreme weather and unexpected mechanical issues can make it impossible to guarantee buses will run on time or at all. Routes may take significantly longer in adverse conditions.
Edmonton Catholic Schools will notify families as soon as we become aware of any changes. To receive timely updates, subscribe to notifications through the BusPlanner Delays App.
Please ensure children are supervised at the bus stop, are dressed appropriately for winter weather, and have clear instructions in case their bus does not arrive. Families should have a backup plan and make alternate arrangements to get their child to school if needed.
For questions about transportation, contact Edmonton Catholic Schools Transportation Services at 780-441-6078 or email transportationservices@ecsd.net.
Keeping Schools Open
Edmonton Catholic Schools prioritizes keeping schools open during inclement weather to provide a safe, warm, and secure environment for students. If you choose to keep your child home, please inform your school.
If a situation requires the Division to cancel classes, families will be notified by the school or the Division.
Outdoor Activities
Decisions about outdoor activities follow Administrative Procedure 131. As a guideline, students do not go outside if the temperature and wind chill are -20°C or colder. Recess will move indoors only during extreme conditions, so students should come dressed for the outdoors.
Emergency procedures remain in effect regardless of the weather.
